Coastal Concierge Physicians is completely physician-owned and physician-operated practice. We are fellows of the American College of Emergency Medicine and have received board certification from the American Board of Emergency Medicine. We practice medicine in the calm comfort of one’s home and the chaotic trauma departments of urban hospitals. These unique experiences have fostered our passion and acute capability to improve the delivery of care to each of our patients.
Dr. Michael Holman
Dr. Michael Holman is a board certified and practicing Emergency Physician at Sharp Chula Vista and Sharp Coronado, who is passionate about improving the patient experience. His many years in the ER have given him the skills to treat a wide scope of illnesses, from a bruise to a heart attack, enabling him to bring his acute care expertise to the homes of his patients.
Dr. Holman grew up in Coronado, graduating from Coronado High in 2002. He studied philosophy at Franciscan University and then premedical sciences at The Ohio State University, later attending the esteemed Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He completed internship and residency training at UCSD. He was a flight physician for Mercy Air Helicopter Ambulance and received training in pediatric emergency medicine from Rady Children’s Hospital. In 2012 he was UCSD Chief Resident and Resident of the Year.
Dr. Holman is currently an attending physician at Sharp Chula Vista and Sharp Coronado. He served on the Sharp Chula Vista Site Management Team and graduated from Sharp Healthcare Physician Leadership Academy. He is currently the Medical Director of Integrated Care Management at Sharp Coronado and Sharp Chula Vista Hospitals.
Dr. Karrar Ali
Dr. Karrar Ali is a board certified and practicing Emergency Physician. Training with over 18 years of experience in the emergency departments throughout Southern California. Currently, he is currently practicing at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, Sharp Coronado Medical Center, and the VA San Diego. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he was one of several physicians to volunteer his time in New York during the initial surge in 2020. He is also on staff at Aeromedevac as a flight physician, transporting critical ill patients around the world. He has worked in an urban trauma centers, community hospitals, and rural medical facilities throughout his career.
Dr. Ali serves on the executive board at the San Diego County Medical Society. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Rochester Mindfulness Medicine program, working with healthcare provider resilience and wellness. In addition, he is the medical director for 1st Meridian Home Health and the medical director for Living Angels Hospice.

Dr. Thomas Ence
Thomas Ence, MD is a board-certified Emergency Physician at Sharp Chula Vista and Sharp Grossmont hospitals. He is passionate about providing excellent care and improving communication between patients and physicians, with years of ER experience equipping him to manage the full spectrum of acute medical needs. Motivated by the barriers of practicing in the fast pace of the ER—where time with patients is limited—he joined Coastal Concierge Physicians to offer more personal, attentive care. He loves giving patients 24/7 access to a physician who can see them in their homes, answer questions, and promote healing. He loves being able to slow down, connect more deeply, and focus wholly on each patient.
Dr. Ence grew up in Utah and studied psychology at Brigham Young University, graduating summa cum laude. He earned his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine, where he was nominated to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, and completed his Emergency Medicine residency at the University of California, San Diego. At Sharp, he serves as the Emergency Physician User Group Lead and a Physician Builder, developing tools to improve efficiency, safety, and accessibility in patient care. He is also a graduate of the Sharp Physician Leadership Academy.
He lives in La Mesa with his wife and their three children. Outside of medicine, he enjoys growing fruit trees, cycling, surfing, and cheering his kids on at soccer.
Dr. James Corbett
James Corbett-Detig, MD is a board-certified Emergency Physician who has spent his career caring for patients and families across San Diego. He currently practices at Scripps Torrey Pines Urgent Care and Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center, where he’s known for his calm, clear, and compassionate approach to medicine.
Dr. Corbett understands that navigating the healthcare system can be stressful. He takes pride in helping patients make sense of their options and feel confident about their next steps—whether that means hospital care, follow-up with a specialist, or simply rest and recovery at home. His new concierge-style practice brings that same level of attentive, high-quality care directly to patients’ homes, making it easier for families and individuals to get the help they need without the hassle of a clinic visit.
Originally from the San Francisco Bay Area, Dr. Corbett completed his undergraduate studies at UCLA, attended medical school at the Larner College of Medicine in Vermont, and returned to San Diego for residency at UCSD. During his training, he gained experience across the full spectrum of emergency medicine—from providing pre-hospital flight care with Mercy Air, to treating pediatric emergencies at Rady Children’s Hospital, and caring for adult and trauma patients at UCSD and local community hospitals.
When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Corbett can often be found surfing in Ocean Beach, spending time with his daughters at Liberty Station Park, or enjoying the coastal charm of Point Loma.
Dr. Nicholas Ward
Dr. Ward is a board-certified Emergency Medicine physician dedicated to providing patient-centered, high-quality concierge care. With a focus on accessibility and personalization, he offers 24-hour physician contact, virtual consultations, and in-home treatment—ensuring patients receive expert care whenever and wherever they need it.
A proud alumnus of the UC San Diego School of Medicine and the UCSD Emergency Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Ward built a strong foundation in acute care and academic leadership. With over a decade of experience in emergency and acute care settings, he combines clinical excellence with a deep commitment to service and education.
Dr. Ward serves as clinical faculty for a community-based residency program, where he has held key leadership positions including Assistant Program Director and Director of Education. He is also the Chair of Sharp Urgent Care centers, overseeing a countywide network of clinics dedicated to delivering efficient, compassionate care. His outstanding service has been recognized through the Sharp Healthcare Guardian Angel honor and the C.O.R.E. Award for excellence in patient care.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Ward lives in Del Mar, San Diego, with his wife and three young children. He remains actively involved in the local community through volunteer work and outreach initiatives.
Whether caring for patients in-clinic, at home, or virtually, Dr. Ward brings warmth, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to every encounter.
